Utilizing a low-kV technique can effectively improve contrast resolution in radiography. Contrast resolution is the ability to distinguish between differences in the radiographic image, which is crucial for identifying subtle variations in tissue densities. When a low kilovolt peak (kV) setting is used, the energy of the X-ray photons is reduced, which increases the differential absorption in the tissues being imaged. This means that softer tissues, which may have only slight differences in atomic number and density, can be better visualized against one another.

The lower energy photons are more likely to be absorbed by denser tissues, resulting in greater contrast between various structures, thereby enhancing the visibility of features within the image. This is particularly beneficial in areas where subtle differences are critical for diagnosis, such as in imaging soft tissues.

In contrast, as the other techniques either do not directly correlate with improving contrast resolution or could even potentially worsen it, they offer limited or negative benefits in this regard. Higher grid ratios, for instance, are used to reduce scatter radiation, but this may not inherently improve contrast resolution without consideration of other factors like exposure technique.
